WII-mote Dissection at Sparkfun
For the 8 years or so, folks like me have been using MEMS-based accelerometers from Analog Devices and other vendors for various user interface shenanigans, dreaming of the day when the part cost would drop enough to justify applications in consumer. Well, the prices have finally dropped to around $5.00-$8.00 in moderate quantity, and products are flooding the streets.
While companies like Gyration have pioneered this field, Nintendo is creating a consumer sensation with its popular Wii controllers. Now, the enterprising folks at Sparkfun have gotten a hold of one and done a nicely documented dissection.
